Weave Women & Children’s Centre hosted a craft activity day and catered lunch for clients and their kids.
The day started off with some fun art and craft activities to get the creativity flowing. Each child was given their own carry-bag to decorate. The kids all enthusiastically summoned their inner Picassos, creating some awesome and original drawings.
Next, the kids could choose between two craft activities: yarn lettering with Marley, our children’s worker, or terrarium-making with Sofia, our social work student.
The yarn lettering involved weaving various coloured and textured pieces of yarn around a cardboard stencil of the first letter of the child’s name. It was a very relaxing activity, with some of the mums getting involved too!
The terrarium-making was also a hit with the kids. Each child received a plastic jar where they could create a mini world with sand, toy animals, yarn, fake plants and pom poms. The kids really enjoyed this, with one of the boys bringing his terrarium back into the Centre to show off the next day.
We then took a break to enjoy the lovely lunch, generously donated by The Caterer Sydney. The mums and kids really appreciated the beautifully made gourmet sandwiches, quiches, fruit platters and brownies for dessert!
To finish the day off, we had a lot of fun doing some biscuit decorating with different coloured icing and loads of lollies!
Overall, it was a great day for the mums, carers and kids who had the opportunity to socialise, get creative and enjoy a nice bite to eat. One of the girls who attended enjoyed herself so much, she told us she didn’t want to go home and asked when she could come back to play again!
A big thank you to everyone involved, especially Sophie from The Caterer Sydney for the amazing food; and to Marley and Sofia for running the activities.
