This year we thought we try out a new program called Go4Fun, it’s a 9-week program and it’s about eating healthy, getting families into healthy routines and doing more physical activities instead of staying indoors on electronic devices.

The first week we introduced the program and also the other workers James & Vanessa who helped us most of the way through the 9 weeks, Adam was having a session with the parents, I started with some activities while James & Vanessa done the physical assessments.

In the second week, we had a visit from Sarah Mitchell the Minister for Early Childhood Education and the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs.

Throughout the rest of the weeks we focused on things like processed and unprocessed foods, portion sizes and serving sizes, fat and sugar and we had a grocery shop with the families, and it was based around healthy foods, with less than 5g of fat and 5g of sugar in 100g of food and the group were pretty engaged and had a lot of input. The kids and adults worked well together, we talked about triggers and they were quite honest and they took a lot out of it.

We also had a visit from Danny Allende from Souths Cares, and with him the kids participated in a number of fun and engaging fitness activities and games.

A big thank you to South Eastern Sydney Local Health District, La Perouse Public School and to all the kids and families who participated in our program.

“Hey Adam when is the next go 4 fun program on? Id like to do it again. It was crazy learning how much sugar is in things!”

“Even though there were moments the program was hard, it was a really good program! I really like all these new healthy things we get to try, learn about and eat each week.”
